Leeds United produced a stunning late comeback to hold Chelsea to a 2–2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, clawing back from two goals down in a dramatic English Premier League match that left the home crowd stunned.
Chelsea appeared firmly in control after racing into a commanding lead, inspired by the sharpness of Cole Palmer, who was at the heart of everything good for the hosts.
Palmer opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a delightful chipped finish after spotting Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow off his line.
He doubled Chelsea’s advantage shortly after the restart, coolly converting from the penalty spot in the 58th minute to make it 2–0.
At that stage, Chelsea looked set for a comfortable victory, having dominated possession and created a flurry of chances, with João Pedro and Enzo Fernández both going close.
However, Leeds refused to fold and their resilience was rewarded midway through the second half. A clumsy challenge from Moisés Caicedo handed the visitors a lifeline, and Lukas Nmecha stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty in the 67th minute, sending Robert Sánchez the wrong way.
Buoyed by the goal, Leeds pushed forward with renewed belief. The pressure eventually told in the 73rd minute when a goalmouth scramble left Chelsea’s defence exposed, allowing Noah Okafor to tap into an empty net for the equaliser.
Chelsea threw everything forward in the closing stages, with Palmer blazing over from close range deep into added time and Neto’s crosses repeatedly threatening, but Leeds’ defence held firm to secure a hard-earned point.
The result leaves Chelsea ruing missed opportunities after surrendering a two-goal cushion and failed to move third in the premier league.
