Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), just hours after announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The development was confirmed on Wednesday in Makurdi when Suswam formally picked up his APC membership card at Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Earlier in the day, Suswam had resigned from the PDP, citing what he described as persistent and unresolved internal crises within the party.
In his resignation letter, he lamented that the party, once known for cohesion, internal democracy and progressive opposition, had become riddled with disputes spanning leadership, structure, discipline and ideology, with no credible pathway to resolution.
Despite his exit, the former governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded him over the years, noting that the party provided the platform for his service as a member of the House of Representatives, governor of Benue State and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Suswam’s defection marks a major political shift, given his long-standing ties with the PDP, where he was a founding member and had remained for 27 years.
He served as governor of Benue State for two terms and represented Benue North East Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2019 and 2023.
Speaking after receiving his APC membership card, Suswam urged his supporters to immediately register with the ruling party.
He also called on the people of Benue State to support the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia to enable him to successfully deliver on his mandate.
Suswam disclosed that a formal ceremony to receive him and his supporters into the APC would be organised at a later date. NAN reports that the APC membership card was presented to Suswam by the party’s Benue State Organising Secretary, Mr James Ornguga, on behalf of the state chairman of the party.
