Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has declared Tuesday, February 3, a public holiday to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
Tokunbo Talabi, secretary to the state government (SSG), announced the public holiday in a statement issued on Monday.
Talabi said the public holiday is to enable residents to fully participate in activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
He noted that the anniversary marks five decades of Ogun’s political existence, steady growth, and contributions to national development.
He urged residents to commemorate the milestone in an atmosphere of unity and peace while reaffirming the government’s commitment to consolidating past achievements and accelerating development across the state.

Talabi added that the governor encouraged citizens to take advantage of the holiday to actively participate in events marking the Golden Jubilee of the Gateway state.
Ogun state was created on February 3, 1976.
The Golden Jubilee celebration is expected to feature a series of commemorative activities reflecting on the state’s history, celebrating its progress, and projecting its development aspirations for the future.
