President Bola Tinubu on Sunday chaired an extended closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s top security chiefs at the Presidential Villa.
The meeting is what sources described as a direct follow-up to recent successful rescue operations and a strategic review of the country’s deteriorating internal security situation.
The high-level session, which commenced in the afternoon and was still ongoing as of 7:00 p.m., brought together the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services.
Present were: Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Taoreed Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and Director-General, Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.

The emergency parley comes few less than two hours after President Tinubu publicly announced the rescue of 38 worshippers abducted two weeks ago from a church in Eruku, Kwara State, and the safe recovery of 51 students kidnapped from a Catholic secondary school in Suleja, Niger State.
The President had revealed that he had cancelled his scheduled attendance at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, to remain in Abuja and “personally oversee and coordinate” ongoing security responses.
“My administration will not rest, and we will not relent until every part of Nigeria is safe and secure for all citizens and residents,” President Tinubu declared, adding that “significant resources and political will” were being deployed to end banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency.
While details of the discussions remain classified, knowledgeable sources indicate that the agenda included a comprehensive review of rules of engagement, intelligence-sharing protocols, and the acceleration of the long-delayed acquisition of critical platforms and weaponry.
