1. What does it mean to be sealed by God?
To be sealed means to be marked, secured, and identified as God’s own possession.
In biblical times, a seal:
• Marked ownership
• Guaranteed authenticity
• Provided security and protection
• Indicated something was final and unchangeable
Ephesians 1:13 (NLT)
“When you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit…”
God’s seal is not a feeling or a work—it is the Holy Spirit Himself.
2. Why does god seal you?
God seals believers because they belong to Him.
Primary reasons for sealing:
1. Identification – God marks you as His own
2. Security – Your salvation is protected
3. Guarantee – God assures your eternal inheritance
4. Assurance – You can live with confidence, not fear
The sealing happens the moment you believe the gospel.
3. What are we saved from?
Salvation is:
• Rescue from eternal judgment
• Deliverance from condemnation
• Security from separation from God
Ephesians 1:13 (NLT)
“…the Good News that God saves you.”
You are not saved from hardship—you are saved from eternal judgment.
4. What is the purpose of the sealing?
Ephesians 1:14 (NLT)
“The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised.”
The Holy Spirit is:
• A guarantee
• A deposit
• A first installment
• A foretaste of heaven
Ephesians 1:14 (AMP)
“The first installment, the pledge, a foretaste of our inheritance…”
God gives the Spirit as proof that He will finish what He started.
The Spirit says: “God is not done with you yet.”
5. How long are you sealed for?
You are sealed until redemption is complete.
Ephesians 1:14 (AMP)
“Until the redemption of God’s own purchased possession…”
That means:
• Until Christ returns
• Until resurrection
• Until glorification
A seal that can be removed is not a seal. A guarantee that can fail is not a guarantee.
6. Why are some people not sealed?
People are not sealed because:
• They have not believed the gospel
• They rely on works, law, or self-effort
• They reject Christ’s finished work
Galatians 3:2 (NLT)
“You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ.”
The Spirit is received by faith, not obedience to the Law.
7. Can the Seal Be Lost?
No.
2 Corinthians 1:22 (NLT)
“He has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment…”
A seal that can be continually removed and reapplied defeats the purpose of a guarantee.
The seal provides:
• Permanent assurance
• Confidence in Christ’s return
• Rest from striving
8. The tribulation example (Revelation 7:4)
During the tribulation:
• 144,000 are sealed
• They are protected
• They remain intact
• They appear together at the end
This illustrates that:
• God’s seal protects
• God’s seal preserves
• God’s seal secures the outcome
The concept of sealing always carries security and completion.
9. Why works cannot maintain salvation
Galatians 3:3 (NLT)
“After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own effort?”
Paul calls this thinking:
• Foolish
• Bewitching
• Contrary to the gospel
You start by the Spirit You continue by the Spirit You finish by the Spirit
Final Summary
• You are sealed when you believe
• The seal is the Holy Spirit
• The purpose is security, identity, and assurance
• The seal lasts until eternal redemption
• Those not sealed have not believed
• Salvation is by faith alone
• God’s seal cannot fail
If God sealed you, God will finish you.
