…A teaching on freedom through Christ

Introduction
In ancient Israel, people believed that children could suffer for the sins of their parents. They said, “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.” (Ezekiel 18:2, Jeremiah 31:29)
But God corrected that belief. Through the prophets, He declared that each person is responsible for their own sin.
“The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4)
God is just. He does not punish children for their parents’ sins. However, under the Law of Moses, sin still brought punishment, because the law exposed sin but could not remove it.
The law brings wrath
“For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it.” (Romans 4:15 NLT)
The law shows us God’s holy standard but also reveals our failure. It’s like a mirror that shows dirt on our face but cannot wash it off.
Those who try to be right with God by keeping the law always fall short. The law brings judgment, not righteousness.
“By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight.” (Romans 3:20)
Righteousness without the law
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.” (Romans 3:21 KJV)
Righteousness is not earned but received by faith. The Law and the Prophets pointed to Jesus, who fulfilled the law and gave us His righteousness.
Christ has redeemed us from the curse
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.” (Galatians 3:13 KJV)
He took the punishment that the law demanded so that we could receive the blessing of Abraham—righteousness by faith.
The curse stops at the Cross. If you are in Christ, you and your children are no longer under the curse.
Live and remain in freedom
“So, Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” (Galatians 5:1 NLT)
Paul warns believers not to go back into bondage. Freedom in Christ means living by grace, not guilt or fear.
Conclusion
Under the old covenant, sin brought a curse. Under the new covenant, grace brought righteousness.
Because of Jesus:
• You are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14).
• You are not guilty for your father’s sin (Ezekiel 18:4).
• The curse is broken by the blood of Jesus (Galatians 3:13).
Your children will not suffer from the curse of the law, for Christ has taken that curse upon Himself. You and your household are covered by grace.
Declaration
*Through the finished work of Christ, I am free from the curse of the law.
*The righteousness of God is mine by faith.
*My children walk in blessing, not in bondage.
*The sour grapes of the past have lost their power, for Jesus has made me free, and I will stay free.
