President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to the family of former Labour Leader, Ali Ciroma who passed on at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State capital, on Tuesday.
In the condolence message signed by Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity) Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Comrade Ali Chiroma over the passing of the elder statesman.
A family member, who is also the Secretary of the Borno State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ali Ibrahim Ciroma, had announced the death of the unionist in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Comrade Ali Ciroma, former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
“The sad event occurred this evening (Tuesday, April 2) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
“The burial for the repose of the deceased will be held tomorrow Wednesday 4pm at the residence of the deceased No.7A along Galadima Road near Muhammadu Shuwa Memorial Hospital (Nursing Home), Maiduguri.”
Comrade Ciroma was former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and had held various positions within the trade union hierarchy.

The President sympathized with the Ciroma family, the Organized Labour community, and everyone impacted by this painful loss.
Recalling the endeavours of the former Labour leader at a trying time in the life of the nation, President Tinubu affirms that Ciroma stood up for the independence of the NLC and doggedly defended the downtrodden when it mattered the most.
The President prayed to Almighty Allah to grant repose to the soul of the departed while assuring the family of the elder statesman of his thoughts and prayers in this moment of grief.
Ciroma served as the president of the NLC from 1984 to 1988 until he was ousted by the military administration of Gen Ibrahim Babangida, which disbanded the union. However, during the Abacha regime, he was reinstated into the realm of unionism, being appointed as the Sole Administrator of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.
