A 17-year-old girl in Paris fell off a truck and died while celebrating France’s 2026 World Cup quarter-final win over Morocco.
Local emergency services confirmed the teenager’s death on Friday.
France defeated Morocco 2-0 in their last-eight match at the ongoing competition.
After the victory, celebrations erupted across France, with hundreds dancing in the streets of Paris, watched by thousands of police on security duty.
Amid the excitement, the teenage girl was on a truck at Aulnoye-Aymeries, near the northern city of Maubeuge, before she fell off.
Local authorities said she was run over by the vehicle after her fall and was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck has been detained, while another teenager who witnessed the fall was taken to the hospital suffering from shock.
Similarly, in London, the police say four people were arrested following the “violent disorder” while celebrating the French national team’s victory.
One officer was also injured during the incident, which happened at Edgware Road, near Hyde Park, with some people throwing bottles and other objects at police.
Police said the trouble started after people blocked traffic on the road.
