Suspected cultist arrested with pistol, live cartridge in Lagos

A 27-year-old alleged cult gang member identified as Yusuf Lamina Adigun has been arrested by the police after he was found in possession of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of Lagos State.

The spokesperson of Lagos Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi announced this in a statement on Saturday

According to her, operatives of the Command as part of sustained efforts to rid Lagos State of cultism and other violent criminal activities during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the State intercepted a motorcycle conveying three passengers.

“During the search, one of the passengers, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, a 27-year-old male, was found in possession of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge,” the Lagos Police Command spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, during preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Abimbola also further disclosed that Adigun claimed he and other members of the cult group, who are currently at large, were on a mission to launch an attack on some individuals before they were intercepted by the Police.

She added that the suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession.

Adebisi quoted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai as reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.

Fatai, the spokesperson said, also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist the Police in preventing crime and ensuring the safety and security of all.
