It was the kind of weekend horror story that makes a whole city lock its doors a little tighter.
In the quiet hours at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, a housewife identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children were reportedly butchered inside their own home, an attack so cold and calculated it left residents shaken and the police racing against time.
But the real chill came after the cuffs clicked.
According to the Kano State Police Command, the alleged ringleader, said to be a relative of the deceased, didn’t just confess to the slaughter of the mother and her children. He reportedly looked investigators in the eye and dropped a line straight out of a nightmare: “I have killed two other housewives.”
Police sources said the suspect admitted involvement in other violent attacks, including the killing of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, within Gwale Local Government Area of the state, suggesting the Dorayi massacre may have been part of a wider, bloodier pattern.
The Kano Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Bakori, confirmed that the suspect was arrested alongside two other principal suspects during an intelligence-driven sting operation carried out between 10pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday, a narrow window of darkness where detectives moved fast and silent.
The operation, Bakori said, was carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and coordinated by the Kano Command.

Police say the arrest wasn’t just based on suspicion, it came with evidence that investigators believe ties the suspects directly to the crime scene.
Recovered items include: blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, cash allegedly taken from the scene, and other weapons.
The police commissioner said investigations was ongoing, as detectives work to piece together the full motive, the roles played by each suspect, and whether the killings are connected to other unsolved attacks in Kano. Bakori commended the officers involved in the sting operation and thanked members of the public for their cooperation, assuring residents that the command remains committed to public safety and justice.
