President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, March 11, 2024, as the first day of Ramadan.
The Sultan made the announcement on Sunday in a broadcast.
He said the declaration followed the sighting of the moon according to the National Moonsighting Committee.
His words: “We got the information from Muslim leaders across the country and we accept the sighting of the moon accordingly.”
While rejoicing with Muslims in general, the Sultan prayed to Allah to spare the lives of all to participate in the exercise and enjoy the benefits that come with it.
The Ramadan fast is for either 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon.
During the month, Muslims will observe the fast from just before the sunrise prayer, Fajr, to the sunset prayer, Maghrib.
Those observing the fast are to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and sexual relations.
