Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be on the ballot during the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Sunday at the PDP national convention, Saraki said the gathering and the validation of its processes have positioned the party to field candidates in the next election cycle.
He added that the convention demonstrated the party’s continued relevance and nationwide support.
“We now have a party that people can no longer blackmail and aspirants or make fun of them, that, ‘oh, you will not be on the ballot paper’. Now we know PDP will be on the ballot paper in 2027. This is a great achievement,” Saraki said.
“When you look at the spectacle of those present here, and even as we were driving in, those who are outside, we can only say we thank Almighty God because it shows that PDP is alive, PDP is kicking, and PDP is here to stay. It is clear that PDP, for what we see here and what we see outside, is deeply rooted in this country.”

Speaking about the importance of due process, he said the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gave credibility to the exercise and strengthened the party’s readiness for 2027.
“Our mission is to ensure that we create a platform of PDP for those who want to aspire any ambition come 2027. And to do that, we must ensure that we have the validity of our processes,” he said.
Saraki also commended party leaders and members for remaining steadfast despite challenges, saying their commitment made the convention possible.
He urged unity within the party, calling on aggrieved members to set aside differences in the collective interest of the PDP and the country.
“For those who are not yet there, I appeal to you again. It is not about interest. It’s not about individual objective. It is the collective responsibility of this great party to this great country,” he said.
Saraki expressed optimism about the party’s electoral prospects, saying, “PDP has come to stay, and not only come to stay, we’ll be victorious in the elections coming in 2027”.
He advised incoming party leaders to ensure fairness and provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
