The Agege Township Stadium came alive with color, cheer, and competition on Wednesday, April 2nd, as BOLS International Schools held its much-anticipated Interhouse Sports Competition. Under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief Sunbo Onitiri, four houses—Blue, Green, Purple, and Yellow—vied passionately for supremacy in an electrifying atmosphere.
BOLS International Schools, in Ipaja, Lagos, is renowned for its robust academic curriculum and rich extracurricular offerings. The institution continues to set the pace in delivering a holistic education that nurtures both intellect and character.
The day’s events kicked off at 11:22 AM with the symbolic lighting of the Unity Torch by the school’s Managing Director, Mr. Adegbola Onitiri. This was followed by a vibrant and well-coordinated march past by all four houses, each displaying a unique fusion of culture, pageantry, and pride.
Students then took to the tracks for a variety of races and fun games, including the 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m sprints, as well as the 4x100m relay. Younger pupils also delighted the crowd with playful events such as “Filling the Bottle” and the “Slippers Race.” These contests not only tested athletic ability but also reinforced values such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
According to educational experts, events like these are essential to a well-rounded education. They help build physical fitness, character, and critical life skills such as leadership, communication, and perseverance.
The excitement soared when parents joined the action with a novelty march past, a spirited race, and a thrilling tug-of-war contest—adding a heartwarming sense of community to the festivities.
After a day filled with adrenaline and applause, Purple House emerged as the overall winner, topping the medals table with an impressive 12 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Green House came in second with 10 gold, 7 silver, and 13 bronze medals, followed by Yellow House with 9 gold, 19 silver, and 6 bronze medals. Blue House rounded out the standings with 7 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
A standout performance was delivered by Mr. Faa’eez Ibuoye of Purple House, who earned a remarkable four gold medals, earning him a place among the school’s sporting legends.
In a show of camaraderie, the event also featured a special 4x100m relay with invited schools including Gloryland International College, Imperial Light College, Topmost College, and Life Chapel College.
Medals were awarded to outstanding athletes, and special recognition plaques were presented to the outgoing PTA Chairmen and House Owners for their invaluable contributions to the school’s development.
Corporate sponsors, were present to support the event and provide refreshments, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
