Psalm 114
1 When the Israelites escaped from Egypt when the family of Jacob left that foreign land—
2 the land of Judah became God’s sanctuary,
and Israel became his kingdom.
3 The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way!
The water of the Jordan River turned away.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
the hills like lambs!
5 What’s wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way?
What happened, Jordan River, that you turned away?
6 Why, mountains, did you skip like rams?
Why, hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob.
8 He turned the rock into a pool of water;
yes, a spring of water flowed from solid rock.
This psalm speaks of how the power of the enemy is broken in our lives.
This is the power of God. The obstacles are power of darkness that will leap away from us like rams and lambs.
That is a picture of what happened to us in Christ.
What is the significance of this scripture?
This is the power of God at work.
The mountains represent the obstacles and powers of darkness that stand against us — but in the presence of the Lord, they cannot remain. They leap away like rams and lambs, just as the mountains did when Israel came out of Egypt.
That is a picture of what happened to us through Christ’s finished work on Calvary.
When Jesus shed His blood, every barrier between God and humanity was broken. The power of the devil lost its grip. The cross became our Red Sea, and the resurrection our Jordan River — the passage is a victory over the power of darkness and limitations and obstacles.
At Calvary, God’s presence was released into the hearts of believers.
Now, because of the Blood of Jesus, every mountain of opposition, every power of darkness, and every impossibility must move.
The cross made us God’s sanctuary, and His resurrection made us His kingdom.
When His presence dwells in you, the same power that parted the sea now makes the mountains skip before you.
