The Kwara State Police Command has rescued three victims of a kidnapping incident in Igbonla community, Irepodun local government area, following a swift response by its operatives and local security groups.
The victims, identified as Fatima Wasiu, her son Kudus Wasiu, and her six-month-old baby, were freed unhurt after gunmen invaded a residential building in the area on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
According to a statement signed and released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi on Tuesday, the police received a distress call during the attack and immediately mobilised a joint team of detectives, vigilantes, and local hunters to the scene.
“The swift action led to the successful rescue of three kidnapped victims unhurt, while intense efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining two victims, identified as Wasiu Salihu and Abdullahi Sefiu, and to arrest the perpetrators,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, praised the combined security team for their quick intervention and assured residents that the Command remains committed to combating kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes across the state.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence that would assist security agencies in maintaining peace and safety in all communities.
“The Command calls on citizens to maintain the tempo of quick intelligence reporting and information sharing that enable us to discharge our duties swiftly in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, security patrols have been intensified around the Igbonla axis and adjoining communities as efforts continue to track down the fleeing kidnappers and rescue the remaining victims.
In a related development, the Kwara State Police Command also rescued one Haruna Ahamadu unhurt from a kidnapper’s den in the Omu-Aran Forest, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the operation followed credible intelligence that prompted a joint action by police operatives and local vigilante members.
These swift and coordinated actions underscore the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and protecting residents across the state.
