The Deputy National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Prince Nweze Onu, has condemned the resignation of Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabiru Yusuf, from the party, describing the move as a betrayal of the voters who brought him to power.
Prince Onu stated that the NNPP remains unshaken by the governor’s defection, stressing that the party enjoys strong grassroots appeal and widespread acceptance across Kano State. According to him, the strength of the NNPP is rooted in the people and not dependent on political office holders
Reacting to claims by the governor that his defection was driven by internal conflicts within the party, Prince Onu dismissed the allegation as a calculated attempt to “give a dog a bad name in order to hang it.” He categorically stated that there is no internal crisis in any quarter of the NNPP, noting that the party has consistently maintained sincere, united, and cooperative leadership across all its organs at both national and state levels.

He further declared his unalloyed support for the leadership of the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whom he described as a symbol of principled and people-oriented leadership.
On the 2027 general elections, Prince Onu said the contest would be between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ordinary Nigerians. He stated that even if the APC controls all 36 state governorships, it would not prevent the party from suffering an embarrassing defeat at the polls in 2027.
He called on the people of Kano State and NNPP supporters nationwide to remain calm, resolute, and optimistic, assuring them that the party will witness a political turnaround in the near future driven by the will of the people.
