Nigerian Favour Ofili qualified on Monday night for the final of the women’s 200 metres at the Olympic Games at the Stade de France in Paris, finishing 2nd behind 100m champion Julien Alfred in semifinals.
The 21-year-old, who was denied participation in the 100-metre race at the Olympics in Paris due to alleged administrative lapses by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee, will now hope to write her name in gold in the finals on Tuesday.
Ofili ran a season-best 22.05 seconds to place behind new women’s 100m champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia in heat 1 of the semi-finals.
She joins seven others in Tuesday evening’s final of the event, ranking third among the crowd.
Ofili is the lowest on the list with a world ranking of 31 and with a personal best of 21.96.
Alfred had, in the semi-finals, a time of 21.98 and Gabrielle Thomas of the U.S. had 21.86 in winning heat 2 of the semi-finals.
