Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, addressed residents of Angwa Rukuba in Jos North from an armoured personnel carrier following a deadly attack that has heightened tensions across the area.
Viral videos circulating on X show the governor speaking to visibly agitated residents while positioned atop a military-style armoured vehicle, surrounded by security personnel.
The footage has since become a focal point of public reaction to the incident and the government’s response.
In the address, Mutfwang urged calm among residents, stressing the need to avoid reprisals despite the scale of the violence.

He was heard appealing for restraint, assuring the community that efforts were underway at both state and federal levels to stabilise the situation.
The visit followed a shooting incident on Sunday in Angwa Rukuba, where unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents, killing an unspecified number of people and injuring several others.
A resident, who spoke to Channels Television, described the attack, saying, “The attackers just rode past and started shooting sporadically. People were running in different directions.”
While some social media claims put the death toll above 40, there has been no official confirmation of that figure. Authorities have yet to release a definitive casualty count as of the time of reporting.
Multiple local reports confirm that Mutfwang visited the affected community on Monday morning, where he assessed the situation and engaged residents amid tight security presence.
The Plateau State Government has since imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area to prevent further breakdown of law and order following the attack.
Sunday’s violence is the latest in a series of recurring attacks in Plateau State, an area long affected by complex conflicts involving armed groups, communal tensions, and disputes over land and resources.
