Governors of the 36 states scheduled an emergency meeting for late on Wednesday, to discuss the proposed new minimum wage.

This follows the Federal Executive Council’s decision on Tuesday to step down the memo on the minimum wage.

The governors previously rejected the federal government’s proposal of N62,000, stating that some states would need to borrow money if the amount is implemented. However, organized labor is insisting on an N250,000 wage.

Acting Director on Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum NGF, Halima Ahmed, confirmed that the governors would meet in Abuja at 7 pm today to deliberate on the issue.
