What was meant to be a quiet, private visit has ended in shock, whispers and unanswered questions across Minna.
A 53-year-old lecturer, identified as Abdulfatai Aiyede, reportedly collapsed and died while visiting the home of a 25-year-old female nursing student in the Niger State capital, a development that has triggered intense public curiosity and a police investigation.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on January 27, 2026, when the lecturer, reportedly based in Bida, travelled to Minna and paid a visit to the young woman, Stella Joseph, at her residence.
According to police sources, the visit appeared calm at first. The lecturer was reportedly served food shortly after arriving. Moments later, however, the atmosphere reportedly changed dramatically.
Not long after eating, Aiyede allegedly began to convulse violently before slumping inside the apartment.

The young woman reportedly raised the alarm, and the lecturer was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, in a desperate bid to save his life. Doctors, however, pronounced him dead on arrival.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the matter was reported to the command around 10 a.m. He disclosed that the exact cause of the sudden collapse remains unclear, as medical experts are yet to conclude examinations on the body.
In a development that has further fuelled speculation, the police confirmed that the nursing student has been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Abiodun was quick to caution against public assumptions, stressing that her arrest does not automatically imply guilt.
“The body has been deposited for medical examination while we await test results that will determine what truly happened,” the police spokesperson said.
According to police authorities in Niger State investigations are ongoing. Residents have been assured that all facts will be made public once medical and forensic reports are concluded.
