A tragic incident in Abuja has reportedly claimed the life of Nigerian lawyer, Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau, after he became trapped inside a hotel elevator on Tuesday.
According to an eyewitness account, the lawyer was stuck in the lift for an extended period, with preliminary reports suggesting suffocation as the possible cause of death.
However, authorities have not officially confirmed the circumstances, and it remains unclear whether the incident was due to a power outage, a mechanical fault in the elevator, or other factors.
The identity of the hotel has not been disclosed, and no statement has yet been issued by either the hotel management or relevant regulatory authorities.
The incident was confirmed by Senator Shehu Sani in a post on his verified Facebook page.

He wrote: “The case of Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau is pathetic. He was reportedly trapped in an Abuja Hotel lift and he suffocated to death. Could it be that power supplying the lift ceased? Could it be that the lift has technical issues? Could it be that it’s just a tragedy of fate? May Allah grant him Aljanna firdausi, Amin.”
The incident has raised concerns over elevator safety and emergency response measures in hotels across the Federal Capital Territory, highlighting the potential risks in high-rise facilities where maintenance and power supply may be inconsistent.
