KWAM 1, the Fuji singer, has responded to critics challenging his ancestry and his aspiration to become the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The controversy erupted after the singer formally submitted a proposal on Wednesday to be considered for the now-vacant royal stool.
The position became open following the passing of Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died in July at the age of 91 after a historic 64-year reign.
Since announcing his interest, KWAM 1’s eligibility has been intensely debated, particularly on social media, where numerous voices have questioned whether he is an indigene of Ijebuland.
The musician addressed the criticism during a recent performance. In a video shared online, a passionate KWAM 1 asserted that his roots are indisputable.

He firmly stated his lineage, declaring, “I am from the Fidipotemole in Ijebu Ode. It is the same me that is also from the Fusegbunwa of Ijebu-Ode. If you are then questioning my lineage at this point, we will meet at Popo. If it is because of the kingship I am vying for, it is my right; you cannot shut me up”.
To further bolster his claim, the singer invoked the legacy of the late monarch, reminding the public of the honour previously bestowed upon him.
He argued that the late Awujale would never have conferred on him the prestigious chieftaincy title of Olori Omo-Oba (head of the royal children) if he were not of authentic royal descent.
“Late Kabiyesi Awujale, Oba Adetona was of sound mind when he bestowed on me the title of Olori Omo-Oba. If I’m not from a royal lineage, he would never have conferred on me the prestigious chieftaincy title. Awujale is not a covetous person, I therefore invoke your spirit to please reveal what is hidden to the people. They want to cover up the truth,” he added.
