After months of speculation, Jennifer Lopez has officially moved to dissolve her two-year marriage to Ben Affleck.
The multi-hyphenate filed for divorce on Tuesday, Aug. 20 — the second anniversary of the couple’s romantic Southern wedding in Georgia in 2022. They legally married in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022.
PEOPLE has reported for months that the couple was experiencing relationship turmoil, a shocking end to their rekindled romance after previously breaking up in Jan. 2024.
“She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken,” a source told PEOPLE of Lopez.

Ben Affleck has been spotted for the first time since Jennifer Lopez’s divorce filing.
The actor, 52, stepped out without his wedding ring as he headed to an office building in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Aug. 20, after Lopez filed for divorce from him on the same day.
Affleck was photographed walking in the parking lot of the building while wearing a gray T-shirt, jeans and black-tinted sunglasses.
The Air director has been spotted on several other occasions at the same office building in recent weeks as he spent the summer apart from Lopez, 55, amid reports of the pair having split.
Lopez filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE. The actress and singer filed without an attorney and listed a separation date of April 26, 2024.

Jennifer Lopez moved to formally end her marriage to Ben Affleck on a significant date — the second anniversary of their Southern wedding.
“She was done waiting and the date she did it speaks a ton,” says a source of Lopez, 55, who filed for divorce on Tuesday, Aug. 20, without a lawyer.
The move “gives her control of the process,” adds the source. “It’s good that she did it.”

Another Lopez insider echoed the sentiment, underscoring that the superstar is ready to move on. “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” says the insider. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
The singer is mom to 16-year-old twins Max and Emme (with ex-husband Marc Anthony) and Affleck shares three children, Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
In her divorce filing, Lopez listed the couple’s date of separation as April 26, 2024. She and Affleck, 52, legally married in July 2022 during a surprise wedding at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas just a few months following their April 2022 engagement.
“We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez wrote to fans in her July 17, 2022 on the JLo newsletter, referencing their first breakup in 2004.
A month after the Vegas wedding, they then held a larger wedding ceremony in Georgia on the grounds of Affleck’s 87-acre compound outside Savannah in August 2022. It was a star-studded affair, drawing Affleck’s pals Matt Damon and Kevin Smith, among others.

When sharing photos with fans, again through her newsletter, Lopez wrote of rekindling with Affleck, “Some old wounds were healed that day and the weight of the past finally lifted off our shoulders. Full-circle — and not at all the way we planned it. Better.”
PEOPLE first reported in May that Affleck and Lopez were living apart. In the months since, the pair were rarely seen together and were photographed with and without their wedding bands.

And in In July, Lopez was spotted walking arm-in-arm with Ben’s daughter Violet in the Hamptons.
