Five former Inspectors General of Police have visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja to pledge support for the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday, noting that the visit by the former police chiefs was “purposeful” and underscored the importance of institutional backing.
“Support from five former Inspector General of Police is highly significant. Actions often carry more weight than titles,” Giwa wrote.
According to him, the former IGPs; Aliyu Attah, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba, visited the Force Headquarters on Tuesday to express solidarity with the current leadership.
“They understand the demands of this office, having faced its challenges firsthand. They know the sleepless nights, difficult decisions, and responsibility of leading the Force under national scrutiny,” he stated.
Giwa added that the former police chiefs offered their experience and mentorship, with a clear message to the IGP.
“Their advice was direct and practical: sustain reforms, lead with intelligence, protect your officers, and never take the trust of the Nigerian people for granted,” he said.

He further noted that Disu received the delegation with humility and demonstrated confidence in his role.
“He recognises he is building on decades of institutional history shaped by his predecessors and views this not as a burden, but as a privilege. The foundation is strong, and the path forward is clear,” Giwa added.
President Bola Tinubu on March 4, 2026, swore in Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
Disu took the oath of office shortly before the Federal Executive Council meeting, following the reading of his citation, with Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers and other top government officials in attendance.
His swearing-in followed the unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Nigeria Police Council, paving the way for his confirmation as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police.
