US President Donald Trump has ordered flags to be lowered across the United States for one week in honour of country music legend Dolly Parton, following her death at the age of 80.
Trump paid tribute to the late music icon, describing her death as a major loss to millions of people.
“This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will… Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you,” Trump said.
The move comes after Parton died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 80.
Parton was one of the most celebrated figures in country music, with a career spanning more than six decades.
She was known for hit songs including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You,” while her work also extended into acting, business and philanthropy.
Her song “I Will Always Love You” gained further international recognition after Whitney Houston recorded it for the 1992 film The Bodyguard.
Parton also founded the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a programme that provides free books to young children.
Her death has sparked tributes from fans and public figures, with many remembering her contribution to music and her charitable work.
