The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has begun deploying 1,880 prepaid meters to Band A customers under the Meter Asset Funds (MAF) Scheme, aiming to ensure accurate billing and enhance customer satisfaction.
The initiative targets unmetered Band A customers who stopped receiving electricity subsidies in April.
According to a statement by Blessing Tunoh, YEDC’s Communications Officer, the move is part of the company’s efforts to improve transparency and service quality.
“Yola Electricity Distribution Company is pleased to announce the commencement of providing meters under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme. This initiative, targeting unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, is part of our ongoing efforts to provide accurate billing and improve customer satisfaction,” the statement read.
The distribution, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), includes 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters. Installation will be handled by authorized vendors between November 18 and November 30, 2024.
The MAF project, launched on June 13, 2024, is part of the Presidential Metering Initiative aimed at accelerating nationwide access to electricity meters. The meters will be installed at no cost to customers.
“The meters under this framework will be installed at no cost to YEDC customers. We urge all Band A customers to cooperate with the installers visiting their homes and business premises during the metering exercise,” the statement added. YEDC reiterated its commitment to improving electricity distribution quality and delivering reliable, transparent services to all customers.
