Every human being was born under a sentence. Scripture calls it wrath, judgment, and condemnation. This was not symbolic — it was a real, pending doom over humanity because of sin. Wrath and judgment are the same thing. To be delivered from wrath is to be delivered from judgment.
Before salvation, we all lived under this sentence:
Ephesians 2:3 KJV:
“We… were by nature the children of wrath.”
Ephesians 2:3 NLT:
“By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger.”
But God, in mercy, held back the full force of His anger.
Psalm 85 reveals this divine restraint:
Psalm 85:3 KJV:
“Thou hast taken away all thy wrath; thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.”
Psalm 85:3 NLT:
“You held back your fury; you kept back your blazing anger.”
God restrained the wrath we fully deserved because He had prepared a Substitute.
Christ Himself is the One who delivered us from the coming wrath:
1 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV:
“…Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”
1 Thessalonians 1:10 NLT:
“He… rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.”
1 Thessalonians 1:10 NIV:
“Jesus… rescues us from the coming wrath.”
A believer must never expect the wrath of God. Wrath is not your future. Judgment is not waiting for you.
This deliverance is possible because of propitiation — the work of Christ that appeased God’s wrath and satisfied divine justice.
1 John 4:10 KJV:
“He… sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
NIV:
“…sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
1 John 4:10
Every drop of wrath that was meant for you fell on Christ.
Therefore, Scripture boldly declares:
John 3:18 KJV:
“He that believeth on him is not condemned…”
John 3:18 NLT:
“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him…”
John 3:18 NIV:
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned.”
No judgment means no sentence. No wrath now — and no wrath later.
Job 33 gives a prophetic picture of this salvation long before the cross. God Himself interrupts judgment and declares deliverance because a ransom has been found.
Job 33:24 KJV:
“Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.”
Job 33:24 NIV:
“‘Deliver them from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for them.’”
Then comes the confession of the redeemed:
Job 33:27 NIV:
“I have sinned… I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved.”
Job 33:27 KJV:
“I have sinned… and it profited me not.”
And the result:
Job 33:28 KJV:
“He shall not go down to the pit.”
Job 33:28 NLT:
“He rescued me from the grave, and now my life is filled with light.”
This is the testimony of grace:
Guilty — but rescued.
Deserving wrath — but spared.
Because God found a ransom: Christ.
Therefore, we can also declare:
“I will not go to the pit they dug for me.”
The enemy prepares traps, accusations, and pits of destruction, but Scripture says:
Psalm 7:15 KJV:
“He made a pit… and is fallen into the ditch which he made.”
The trap will not catch you.
The judgment will not reach you.
The pit will not receive you.
Because God has already spoken a higher verdict:
“Deliver him.
He shall not go down to the pit.
I have found a ransom.”
Because of Christ’s propitiation:
• Wrath is satisfied.
• Judgment is cancelled.
• Condemnation is removed.
• The pit is closed.
• The sentence is gone.
• The doom is averted.
• Mercy triumphs.
This is the eternal decree over every believer:
I will not suffer the wrath of God.
I will not face the judgment to come.
I will not fall into the pit.
My ransom has been found — Jesus.
My life is filled with light.
