A mixer truck with registration number KANO MDB 531 XA, belonging to Dangote Group, on Monday, crushed a yet-to-be-identified woman to death at the Abule-Egba area inward Mobil Filling Station in Lagos.

The incident, according to the director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Taofiq Adebayo, happened beside Jubilee Bridge Opposite Zenith Bank, Lagos.

Taofiq confirmed that the woman’s trapped dead body was evacuated underneath the Dangote truck by LASTMA officials and immediately handed over to Police from Oko-Oba Police Station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Dangote mixer truck, while on a high speed lost control as a result of a brake failure and while trying to swerve into a drainage channel, crushed the woman.

While the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials, policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security backup while the rescue operations lasted.

According to Taofiq, LASTMA Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba/Tollgate) who led the recovery operations, confirmed that his team were supported by other road sympathizers to remove the dead body.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, however, warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure their trucks are properly checked, including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.
