The Plateau State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is still a member and leader of the party in the state, despite the pronouncement of Professor Nentawe Yilwtda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that the governor has defected to the APC.
Recall that the APC National Chairman recently announced at the party’s NEC meeting in Abuja that the governor had joined the party, which was followed by a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Jos, Plateau State, where the defection was openly acknowledged and endorsed.
It was also learnt that the APC in the state and at the national level has agreed to formally receive the government into the party before January 20th, 2026, at the Polo Playing Ground in Jos, the state capital.
The governor’s supporters have expressed concern about why he hadn’t informed the PDP at his ward, local government, and zonal levels, given that the reception is scheduled to take place in less than three weeks.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Dr. Felix Choji, maintained that Governor Mutfwang remained a member and leader of the PDP in the state, adding that there’s no official correspondence from the governor or his proxy indicating that he is leaving the party.
“The truth of the matter is that as a party in the Plateau, we are yet to receive any correspondence from him or through any of his proxies of his intention to leave the PDP. As of today, the governor still remains a valid member and leader of the PDP in Plateau State.”
“He is the leader of the party as we speak; we have not received any letter or correspondence that he is leaving our party. So, as far as we are concerned, a train cannot move without its head; he is the leader, and the party is waiting for his pronouncement.
“In politics, your membership emanates from your ward. We have not received anything from his ward or from the local government he hails from or from his zone, so we have not received any letter or communication to that effect from these three organs. As I am talking to you, we have done our checks, and there’s nothing of that nature.”
He explained that in the case of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, a resignation letter was tendered to the party, but there’s no official document to back Governor Mutfwang’s defection to the APC.
“In the case of Governor Adeleke of Osun State, he tendered a valid resignation letter to the PDP. In our own case in Plateau State, we don’t have any document to hold on to, to prove that the governor has left the party or is leaving the party,” he said. All efforts to speak with the governor’s political advisor, Hon. Istifanus Nwansat proved abortive as his phone was not connecting to know why the governor has not resigned from the PDP.
