The Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) has tackled the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris for illegally inaugurating a new leadership for the Institute while a legitimately elected council, which tenure is yet to expire, is still in place.
Speaking with journalists in Lagos at the weekend, President of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Comrade Babajide Salako said the minister is aware that the individual that was inaugurated, Koko Clement, has a pending court action instituted by him against the incumbent President/Chairman in council of CIPPON, adding that judgement was yet to be given.
Salako asked: “If indeed assuming but not conceding that Koko Clement is the President as he claimed to be, why did he go to court to contest the leadership of the institute in the case he personally filed as far back as May 2025? Why can’t he wait for the outcome of the case?”.
“The suit, marked FHC/KN/ CS/195/2025, was instituted by Clement himself and includes the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Honourable Minister, the Federal Government Printer and the current CIPPON leadership as defendants.
“The judgment in the matter has been reserved by Justice S.A. Amobeda following the last court hearing on December 11, 2025.”
The CIPPON President said the purported inauguration of Koko Clement was not only unlawful but illegal and a flagrant disregard for the rule of the law.
He adduced this to the fact that there was no provision in the law that establishes the institute that requires the Honourable Minister and/or his representative to inaugurate the council.
“The action of the minister or his representative is subjudice and against the law of the land as Koko Clement cannot be declared the President of the institute without being elected.”
Salako said the minister or/and his representative must have been misled by the misrepresentation of facts presented to them and called on the honorable Minister to urgently reverse the illegal inauguration.
