There were palpable fears in Ibadanland on Sunday over the health of the Olubadan elect, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

People were seen discussing in groups in hushed tones in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, over the health of the 84-year-old monarch who is expected to be crowned as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland as he is next in line to the throne with the passing of Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.

Traditional drummers who had earlier stormed Oba Olakulehin’s palace, immediately after the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun was made public, to rejoice with him as is the custom in Ibadanland, are no longer found around the residence of the incoming Oba.

A former member of the House of Representatives in the Third Republic and the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who heads the Balogun line, hails from Ita Baale in Ibadan North East Local Government.

The succession to the Olubadan throne follows a structured hierarchy within the Olubadan system.
