Five killed in Osun as gas tanker collides with minibus

Five people died in an accident involving 17 commuters when an empty gas tanker collided with a minibus, causing it to plunge into a river in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

17 passengers were trapped on Thursday, September 13, after the gas tanker and the minibus plunged into the river near the Old Toll Gate close to Sabo-Lagere on the road to Ife Grand Resort.

Adekunle Inraheem, Head of Publicity and Public Enlightenment for the Osun State Fire Service, confirmed on Friday that five individuals lost their lives in the incident.

He explained that the tanker and the bus veered off the road into a ditch along Ibadan Express Road in Ajebandele, Ile-Ife.

“After frantic efforts by the men of the State Fire Service in conjunction with FRSC Ile-Ife Zonal Command and some residents, 5 passengers were recovered from the wreckage which comprised of two men and women each and a toddler. They are subsequently conveyed to the OAU Teaching Hospital morgue,” he said.
