*Police arrest driver
Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, were killed in a fatal road accident along the Akure-Ondo Expressway on Wednesday evening and the State Police Command has promptly arrested a driver (whose identity has not been revealed) for killing the duo.
It was gathered that the victims, Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola, who were said to be on a motorcycle, were reportedly crushed by a speeding vehicle leading to their deaths on the spot.
The incident was confirmed in a statement by the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council Ondo State Chapter on Thursday.
The statement was signed by the association’s chairman, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, General Secretary, Oluwanishola Ajibola and Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Blessing.
The statement read, “This loss is a heavy blow to the Ondo State student community.

“The tragic deaths of Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola remind us of the fragility of life. These were young individuals with promising futures, and their loss is deeply felt.”
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest of the driver on Thursday and stated that the suspect is now in police custody. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to a morgue.
She said, “The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the morgue, and the driver of the vehicle is now in police custody.”
…NANS mourns
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, has also voiced deep sorrow over the deaths.
In a statement signed by Comr. Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (Chairman), Comr. Oluwanishola Ajibola (Secretary General), and Comr. Kehinde Blessing (Public Relations Officer), offered condolences to the families and peers of the victims.
“This loss is a heavy blow to the Ondo State student community. The tragic deaths of Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola remind us of the fragility of life,” the statement said. “These were young individuals with promising futures, and their loss is deeply felt.”
The NANS statement stressed the preciousness of life and the right to safety, extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families, and hoping their memories inspire efforts for safer roads and justice.
