The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the official opening of its application portal for legal practitioners and academics seeking elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for the 2027 award cycle.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, the committee confirmed that the online application portal, hosted at lppc.gov.ng/apply, will formally open at 12:00 a.m. on November 1, 2026, and close at midnight on January 31, 2027.

Under the official fee structure approved by the committee, applicants in private legal practice are required to pay a non-refundable application processing fee of ₦5 million, while applicants serving in government institutions or public service will pay a processing fee of ₦2.5 million.

The LPPC guidelines instruct prospective candidates to complete their preliminary filings online before submitting five flash drives containing soft copies of their completed application forms and supporting judicial or academic documents to the LPPC Secretariat in Abuja before 4:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

The publication of the 2027 call for applications comes shortly after Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, administered the oath to 68 newly elevated Senior Advocates during a special session of the Supreme Court marking the official commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.

Legal analysts note that the SAN title remains the highest professional distinction within the Nigerian bar, granting successful rank holders exclusive rights of audience and priority standing across all superior courts of record nationwide.
