Armed bandits have reportedly invaded Igbesi community in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting the traditional ruler, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land.
Igbesi is a community within Oke-Onigbin town in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara South Senatorial District.
The Tribune gathered that the attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when armed bandits stormed the community.
According to a local source, the monarch, who was taken to an unknown location, was abducted alongside some other residents during the attack.
“As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of victims and the whereabouts of the abducted monarch remained unclear,” the source said.
Meanwhile, the state police command has confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, who confirmed the development, however, said no other person was kidnapped.
The police boss said efforts were ongoing to rescue the victim.
“The narrative of attacks within the past 24 hours is far from the truth; nothing of such,” he said.
