The Osun state police command has released Igbalaye Teslim, secretary to the state government (SSG), after he was arrested alongside five others over alleged vote-buying.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, confirmed the SSG’s release in a statement on Thursday.
Olajengbesi commended Tunji Disu, inspector-general of police, and Ibrahim Gotan, commissioner of police in Osun, “for listening to the voice of reason despite pressure and for responding to the people’s demand regarding the unlawful arrest of the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Igbalaye Teslim”.
“We are pleased that the SSG has now been released by the Police. We, however, demand the immediate and unconditional release of all other political detainees still being held,” he added.
“The Nigerian Police Force best serves the nation when it stands against oppression and upholds justice and the rule of law.

The SSG was arrested alongside five others amid allegations of vote buying ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abiodun Ojelabi, police spokesperson in Osun, said N4.8 million and other electoral materials were recovered from a residence linked to Teslim in Osogbo, the state capital.
The development comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the governorship election.
In recent weeks, supporters of Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun who is seeking a second term on the platform of the Accord Party, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have traded accusations and verbal attacks.
