A video has surfaced online showing Delta-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” apologising to the family of a 20-year-old girl, identified as Favour Agbro, who allegedly died by suicide after accusing him of rape.
In the viral clip, Ogbonna was seen pleading with the deceased’s family, including her twin sister, asking for forgiveness over the incident.
“This is a terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me.”
The Delta State Police Command had earlier confirmed Ogbonna’s arrest over the alleged rape of Favour, who later died after reportedly taking her own life.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Edafe, the case stemmed from a petition alleging that Favour travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna invited her to participate in a content creation training programme he had promoted on his social media platforms.
Police said the suspect allegedly took the young woman to a hotel upon her arrival, where she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted.
Investigators said she later returned home in distress and informed her parents about the alleged incident.
The police further stated that, before her death, Favour recorded a video describing the alleged assault and the emotional trauma she experienced afterwards.
Edafe said she later died after ingesting a toxic substance despite efforts to save her.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch an immediate investigation into the allegations.
The investigation led to Ogbonna’s arrest, while detectives said he made useful statements during preliminary questioning as efforts continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The police commissioner assured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigation would be thorough and that every aspect of the allegations would receive proper attention.
He also reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a professional investigation and pursuing appropriate legal action where necessary.
The statement reads, “The Delta State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, male, aged 40, also popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” in connection with the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman, who later died. The arrest followed a petition received by the Command alleging that on 1 June 2026, the deceased travelled to Asaba at the invitation of the suspect, who had offered to train her in content creation, a programme he reportedly promoted through his social media platform.
“Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents. In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident. She subsequently committed suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life.
“Upon receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, directed the Area Command, Effurun, to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations. Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command swiftly commenced an investigation, leading to the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, also known as “Odogwu of Asaba.” During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has assured the family of the deceased and the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that no aspect of the allegations will be overlooked. He further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that the investigation is conducted professionally and that appropriate legal action is taken in accordance with the law.”
