A former member of the 8th House of Representatives representing Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency, Hon. Olatunbosun George Oladele, has expressed profound gratitude over the safe release of schoolchildren, teachers, and other victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity.
In a statement on Monday, Oladele, aka BGO, described the development as a moment of joy, thanksgiving, and renewed hope for the families of the victims and residents of Ogbomosoland and Oyo State at large. He gave glory to Almighty God for preserving the lives of the victims and granting them safe return.
Oladele, who is also the APC candidate for the House of Representatives, Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property. He also appreciated the Oyo State Government, the armed forces and other security agencies, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders who contributed to securing the release of the abducted persons.
He recalled his motion of 27th March 2018 titled: “Call for military intervention in the spate of mindless killings, kidnapping, robbery and other violent crimes pervading Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency.” He said the successful rescue underscores the need for sustained investment in intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and community policing.
He called on the Federal Government to urgently consider establishing a permanent military presence in Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency to prevent future attacks. He noted that decisive security action remains critical to safeguarding lives and property in the area.
He also honoured security personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice and those injured during the rescue operation. Hon. Bosun Oladele prayed for eternal rest for the deceased and quick recovery for the injured, while commiserating with their families.
While calling for justice for the family of the late teacher, Michael Olugbade Oyedokun, killed during the incident, the former lawmaker hailed President Tinubu’s directive for comprehensive medical care, psychosocial support, and rehabilitation for the rescued victims Oladele asked all levels of government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and citizens to make security a shared responsibility. He prayed that such tragic incidents would never occur again in Oriire, Ogbomosoland, Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo, or any part of Nigeria.
