*Start something today

On my way out this morning, I noticed a group of people working diligently on a piece of fallow land. They were making heaps of soil in preparation for planting yam.
What struck me was that these were not wealthy landowners. They may not have enough money yet to build their dream homes on that land, but they refused to let it sit idle.
Instead of allowing weeds and bushes to take over, they chose to put the land to productive use. They are cultivating it to provide food for themselves and their families. That simple act carries a powerful lesson for all of us.
Across our communities, there are countless plots of land covered with thick bushes. Many of these lands are owned by individuals who are waiting for the “right time” to develop them. Years pass, and the land remains unused while the owners miss opportunities to generate value from it. If you own land and cannot yet afford to build on it, that does not mean the land should remain dormant.
Agriculture offers an excellent way to put the land to work. Whether it is yam, cassava, maize, vegetables, plantain, or other crops suitable for your area, the land can produce something beneficial.
The benefits are enormous:
1.. It helps provide food for your family.
2.. It creates an additional source of income.
3.. It prevents the land from becoming overgrown and difficult to manage.
4.. It discourages encroachment and illegal occupation.
5.. It contributes to local food production and food security.
6.. It keeps the land active and productive while you prepare for future development.
Every harvest, no matter how small, is a step forward. The land that produces food today can still become the home, business, or investment project you envision tomorrow.
The people I saw this morning understood an important principle: you may not be where you want to be yet, but you can start with what you have. They are making their land work for them instead of waiting indefinitely.
MY ADVICE
If you own a piece of land that is currently covered with bushes, consider starting something today. You do not have to begin big. A small farm is better than an abandoned plot. Turn that idle land into a productive asset. Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Let your land work for you while you work toward your bigger dreams.
