Former governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mimiko, who served as governor of Ondo between 2009 and 2016, resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in April.
The former governor joined the members of the APC at ward 7, Ondo west LGA secretariat on Thursday.
Mimiko said that he joined the APC to support President Bola Tinubu administration’s developmental goals.
SUPPORT FOR TINUBU
“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government,” he said.
“And though much more will still have to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress, and genuine development.”
He commended the president for instituting initiatives like student loan scheme and efforts to decentralise the police.
“The NELFUND initiative to democratise access to education is another commendable effort of Mr. President, which must be applauded, and for an avowed supporter of state police like myself, the current effort to decentralise policing as being pursued is another reason I am happy to be part of the current effort under Mr. President”, Mimiko said.
‘MIMIKO, A PROGRESSIVE’
Welcoming Mimiko into the party, Kolawole Babatunde, Ondo state chairman of the APC, described him as a progressive.
“Mimiko is a progressive all through, and his coming into the APC is like a homecoming,” he said.
He said Tinubu’s initiatives progressive and in nature, and yielding results that are relatable to positive and progressive-minded Nigerians.
The event was attended by dignitaries, APC stalwarts, cabinet members of the Ondo state government, and principal officers of the state house of assembly.
