Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), met with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday in Abuja.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain met with Jonathan alongside south-east leaders at his residence in the nation’s capital.
In a post on X, Obi described the meeting as part of his “extensive consultations” with Nigerian leaders regarding the 2027 general election and the nation’s future.
“Our discussions were frank, thoughtful, and anchored on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria on the path of unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance,” Obi wrote.
“At a time when our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and deepening social divisions, it has become imperative that leaders across regions come together to reflect, consult, and act in the overall interest of the Nigerian people.”
Obi said Nigeria requires leadership that is guided by competence, character, capacity, and compassion, not personal ambition.
“The kind of leadership that understands that governance is not about sharing what is left, but about creating what is needed. We must move from a consumption-driven nation to a production-driven one, where our vast human and natural resources are effectively harnessed for the common good.”
Obi said the 2027 election is an opportunity to “reset the trajectory of the country”.
