Gunmen on Wednesday launched fresh attacks on communities in Plateau State, killing three persons and injuring two others in separate incidents.
The latest violence, it was gathered, occurred in the Ban community, Heipang, located opposite the Plateau State Polytechnic, where assailants reportedly stormed the area at about 11 p.m. and opened sporadic gunfire on residents.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the incidents, urged residents of Kwi, Wereng, and neighbouring communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom to remain vigilant amid the rising insecurity.
It was gathered that one woman was killed by bullets, while two others were rushed to a hospital for medical attention. However, one of the victims later died from gunshot wounds, while the two others are currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained.
The incident triggered panic among students of the Plateau State Polytechnic, particularly those residing off-campus, as the sound of gunfire sent shockwaves through the area.

A student of the institution, Nanchip Dube, said the attack was confusing within the campus community.
“The sounds of gunshots created panic amongst students,” Dube recounted.
In a related development, gunmen earlier on Wednesday ambushed a group of youths in Riyom Local Government Area, killing a 27-year-old man identified as Amos Monday.
The victim, a resident of Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was reportedly attacked at about 8:15 p.m. along the route between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village.
Efforts to reach the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as calls and messages seeking official reaction were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.
