The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a broad redeployment of senior officers across Nigeria in what officials described as an effort to strengthen command structure and improve operational efficiency within the police force.
The changes, announced on Tuesday by the Force Headquarters in Abuja, affect dozens of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police, spanning state commands, zonal formations and key departments.
Among the most prominent moves, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh was posted to head Zone 2 Command in Lagos, a strategic jurisdiction that oversees policing in the country’s commercial capital and neighboring Ogun State. AIG Dahiru Mohammed was assigned to Zone 15 in Maiduguri, while AIG Dankombo Morris and AIG Bello Shehu were deployed to Zones 4 and 14 in Makurdi and Katsina, respectively.City & Local Guides
At the Force Headquarters, several senior officers were repositioned to departments central to policy and operations. AIG Ado Emmanuel was assigned to Research and Planning, AIG Miller G. Dantawaye to Operations, and AIG Henry Ifeanyi Uche to Training and Development. AIG Joseph Eribo will oversee Armament, while AIG Ibrahim Maikaba takes charge of Legal Services. AIG Ahmed Musa was posted to Community Policing, and AIG Haruna Olufemi to the Special Protection Unit.
The redeployments also reshaped leadership at the state level. CP Olatunji Olaiwola Fatai was named Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, one of the most high-profile postings in the country. CP Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed was assigned to the Federal Capital Territory, while CP Olugbenga Abimbola, CP Olubode Ojajuni and CP Yemi Oyeniyi were posted to Oyo, Ogun and Delta States, respectively.
Other appointments include CP Michael Falade to Ekiti, CP Yakubu Dankaro to Adamawa and CP Haruna Yahaya to Jigawa. CP Ahmed Bello, CP Umar Fagge and CP Hayatu Hassan were deployed to Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto States, respectively.
Beyond territorial commands, several commissioners were assigned to specialized units. CP Akan Ezima was appointed Director of the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja. CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue was posted to INTERPOL, while CP Moses Ashu Otta was assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics unit in Abuja. CP Eloho Okpoziakpo was deployed to the Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Other postings include CP Edwin Ogbegbghagha as Provost at the Force Headquarters and CP Preye Egbe to the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja, underscoring the police’s role in election security.
In a statement, the police said the redeployments were part of “ongoing efforts to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance leadership capacity and improve service delivery nationwide.”
Disu urged the affected officers to bring their experience to bear in their new assignments and to uphold “the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and service.”
The reorganization is one of the most extensive since Mr. Disu assumed office, reflecting an attempt to recalibrate leadership across the force at a time of persistent security challenges in several parts of the country.
