The Government o the Republic of Liberia has announced the appointment of Mr. Dapo Akinosun SAN, FCArb, as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Liberia to Lagos, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The newly appointed diplomat assumes the role with a mandate to represent the interests of the Republic of Liberia and protect the welfare of Liberian citizens within the Consular jurisdiction.
The Honorary Consul is also expected to promote trade, investment, tourism, culture, educational and scientific exchanges between Liberia and Nigeria.
According to the Head, Media Department of the Liberia Consulate Office in Lagos, Mr. Oduntan Kehinde Ogundimu, the official assumption of duty by the new Honorary Consul marks a significant milestone for Liberian interests in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
His appointment reflects Liberia’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral diplomatic relations with Nigeria, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing consular services for Liberian citizens residing in Nigeria and across the region.
In a letter signed by the Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mme Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Akinosun’s appointment is a reflection of the government of Liberia’s recognition of his commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries.

Akinosun brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously served on the boards of corporations specializing in foreign investment and divestment, banking and finance, energy, alternative dispute resolution and arbitration and is known for expertise in capital market trading, privatization initiatives in the oil sector and joint ventures businesses.
The Honorary Consul outlined a vision focused on enhancing consular services for Liberians residing in Nigeria, while actively promoting investment opportunities between the two West African nations.
“I am deeply honored to represent Liberia in Nigeria, a country that shares not just a border, but a deep history and kinship with our people,” said the Honorary Consul.
He reiterated that his focus will be on facilitating a robust business environment for Nigerian investors looking toward Liberia, ensuring the welfare of Liberia citizens here in Lagos, and strengthening the people-to-people ties that have always bound us together.
The Honorary Consulate in Lagos serves as a vital diplomatic mission, catering to the large Liberian community in Nigeria and fostering trade links.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria with over three decades of experience in the legal and managerial fields, Akinosun is one of the Founding Partners of SimmonsCooper Partners, a leading commercial law firm in Nigeria.
Also, he is a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Association of Applied Information Management Professionals and the Institute of Management Consultants.

The new Honorary Consul succeeds Chief (Dr.) Opral Mason Benson, OON, DF.IoD.
A reception to welcoming the new Honorary Consul to the diplomatic corps is expected to be held in Lagos in the coming weeks. The Liberia Consulate in Lagos is responsible for providing consular services, promoting Liberian culture, and fostering diplomatic and economic relations between Liberia and Nigeria.
