Galatians 4:21
“Tell me, you who want to live under the law, do you know what the law actually says?”
The law is not selective. It is one unit:
– the moral law (Ten Commandments)
– the civil law
– the ceremonial law
You cannot pick and choose.
The covenant of the law operates on this basis: do, obey, and live. Righteousness under the law is obtained by perfect obedience.
James 2:10
“For the person who keeps all the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.”
Once the law is violated, penalties are activated. The law does not forgive. It demands punishment.
Romans 6:23
“The wages of sin is death.”
This is why rescue is necessary. You cannot pay for sin yourself because sin carries judgment, not correction.
Galatians 3:13
“Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law… He took the curse upon Himself.”
Christ did not modify the law. He exhausted its judgment. The Mosaic law is not merely moral guidance; it is a legal system with consequences.
Isaiah 28:18
“Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand.”
When the covenant of death is annulled, something replaces it.
Romans 4:15–16
“The law always brings punishment… So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift.”
Once rescued from the curse of the law, you do not receive wages. You receive a gift.
Eternal life is no longer earned. It is given.
Romans 3:21
“Now God has shown us a way to be made right with Him without keeping the requirements of the law.”
This is why the gospel is offensive. It removes human contribution.
Romans 4:6–8
“Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”
“Works” means the requirements of the law. We have been rescued from the law that demands punishment.
Romans 5:13
“Sin was not counted where there was no law.”
So how do we know sin is no longer counted?
2 Corinthians 5:19
“God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins against them.”
Verse 21
“He made Christ, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
To return to the law is to reject this exchange.
Galatians 5:4
“If you seek to be justified by the law, you have fallen from grace.”
To be in Christ is to be rescued from the curse of the law.
Hebrews 8:12
“I will forgive their wickedness, and I will remember their sins no more.”
This is why the gospel appears scandalous. It offers righteousness as a gift, not a reward.
