Revered Lagos monarch, Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, is dead.

It was learnt that the 88-year-old monarch succumbed to an age-related condition on Monday.

A political leader in Badagry who craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the Akran’s death.

Efforts to reach a member of the royal family, Prince Jide Akran, for further confirmation proved abortive as several calls placed to his known phone number were unanswered and a text message sent was not replied.

Aholu Menu-Toyi I ascended the throne as the 15th paramount ruler of Badagry Kingdom in 1977.

Before his emergence as king, he was a journalist of repute in the 1960s and ’70s.
