Commuters and motorists travelling on the Lagos–Ibadan highway have been stranded due to a traffic logjam caused by road reconstruction at the Sagamu interchange end of the expressway.
The gridlock, which had lasted more than four hours at the time of filing this report, forced motorists to take alternative routes through Ogun State to reach their destinations.
It was learnt that travellers from Abeokuta to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode had to use the Siun-Ogere-Iperu axis of the state to reconnect with the highway.
Many travellers resorted to walking, while others had to take commercial motorcycles to reach their destinations.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, advised commuters and motorists to use alternative routes. He added that officials of the agency, in collaboration with the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, are on the ground managing the situation.

Akinbiyi said, “Travellers are advised to take the alternative routes below, particularly those just driving toward this axis. For those already caught in the traffic jam, they should be patient and exercise caution, as TRACE, the police, and the FRSC are on the ground and actively managing the situation.
“Operatives of the security and safety services mentioned above are preventing route violations and reckless driving, while construction engineers are being contacted to open some closed sections to ease the gridlock and reduce the backlog caused by the unfortunate standstill.
“Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted.”
A traveller, Mrs Amoke Ogunjobi, expressed displeasure over the handling of traffic at the Sagamu interchange. She called on the authorities managing the road reconstruction project to open part of the road to allow for the smooth flow of traffic.
