A University of Jos student, Peter Mafuyai, has been allegedly killed by his colleague, identified simply as Nanpon Timnan, in their off-campus apartment at Rusau Village in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A video posted on Facebook by Happy Londi revealed that the deceased was a 300-level student of the Department of Banking and Finance.
Londi added that Nanpon Timnan is a 200-level student of Agricultural Science.
“A student known as Nanpon Timnan, a 200-level student of Agricultural science, is alleged to have killed another student, Peter Mafuyai, a 300-level student of the Department of Banking and Finance in the same University of Jos,” she wrote.
In a video attached to the post, the lifeless body of the deceased was placed in an ambulance as medical personnel covered it with a purple cloth.
According to The Punch, in another video on Facebook posted by Mc Pee, a male adult believed to be a student of the institution was seen narrating what transpired.
According to him, the deceased allegedly begged for his life before he was eventually killed by the suspect.
“Nanpon already cut Peter on his jaw while he was begging for his life. When we also intervened that he should stop, he threatened to machete any one of us who dared come close to him.
When Peter realised that he did not answer, he still threw his arms around him, held him tight, and kept begging him.
“That was when we went outside to seek help, but nobody answered us. So while Peter tried to escape, he fell, and Nanpon caught up with him and kept hacking him with the machete. “
A security and counter-insurgency expert in a post on X on Sunday stated that the suspect had been arrested by operatives of the Plateau State Police Command.
He quoted sources as confirming the incident in a report from the institution’s Chief Security Officer.
He wrote, “The Police Command in Plateau has arrested a 23-year-old student of the University of Jos for allegedly killing and burying his colleague in a shallow grave inside his room at Rusau village in Jos North Local Government Area.

“Sources confirmed the incident on Sunday in Jos, citing a report received from the institution’s Chief Security Officer.
“According to the sources, the suspect, identified as David Nanpon Timmap, a 300-level student of the university, allegedly attacked and machete Peter Mata Mafurai, aged 22, to death in his residence.”
Zagazola added that following a distress call received at about 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Divisional Police Officer of the Laranto Division led a team of officers to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
“The sources said investigations revealed that the suspect buried the deceased in a shallow grave he had dug inside his room. The remains of the victim were exhumed and deposited at Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he added.
He further stated that the suspect is in custody while an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the killing.
The command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, did not respond to calls made to his phone for reaction. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
