…over rejected marriage proposal
A 46-year-old married man, identified as Abi Baragon, has been arrested by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his side chic, Orineme Ayanate, multiple times after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The shocking incident, which reportedly occurred in June 2025, went viral after a disturbing video surfaced online showing the victim crying for help while lying in a pool of her own blood.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 17, the spokesperson of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said detectives attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, swung into action immediately after the viral video surfaced.
“Following intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives apprehended the suspect on October 13, 2025,” the statement read.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect attacked the victim after she turned down his marriage advances upon discovering that he was already married with four children, a claim he has since denied.
During interrogation, Baragon confessed to using bottles to stab the victim multiple times.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody while the victim is receiving treatment at a hospital.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has commended the operatives for their swift action and appreciated members of the public for providing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest,” Iringe-Koko added. The Command assured that a full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
