Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) may soon appoint Comfort Emmanson — the Ibom Air passenger recently freed after a high-profile mid-air altercation — as an “Ambassador for Good Passenger Conduct,” according to Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo (SAN).
In a post on X, Keyamo said it was “common practice worldwide” for repentant offenders to publicly campaign against the very behaviour they once engaged in, likening the role to unpaid community service.
“Unfortunately, in Nigeria, some assume the word ‘Ambassador’ means a lucrative position with perks. No, it’s voluntary and for free,” he wrote, adding that such roles have been assigned to repentant individuals by previous governments.

Keyamo revealed that while aviation agencies are considering using Fuji legend KWAM 1 for a similar campaign following his own flight ban, the AON is “looking at the option of using Ms. Comfort Emmanson” after her public show of remorse.
Emmanson’s potential new role comes just hours after she walked free from Kirikiri Prison.
She was arrested over the August 10 incident on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, filmed resisting removal after a dispute with a flight attendant. The viral footage sparked heated public debate.
Her case was struck out by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court today after police withdrew a five-count charge of unruly behaviour and assault, following Ibom Air’s decision to drop its complaint.
